How does one cope with complete and utter loneliness, living in a world occupied by one? Lawrence Steven Devane does not react well when plunged into precisely this situation.
EXCERPT "I yearn to meet a one-legged, one-armed, one-eyed, elderly gypsy woman who spends every waking minute singing show tunes with a voice like a howler monkey undergoing torture...."
"I couldn't help but think of 'Where Is Everybody?', the first episode ever of the iconic American television anthology series The Twilight Zone. This is a well written, thought provoking, haunting, disturbing tale... it draws real emotion. What more can you ask?" ~ Michael Reviews

I really liked this ten minute long or so short story. I've read plenty of last man (to their knowledge) on earth reads, this would be the shortest of those stories but it's one of the better ones. I liked the diary style, it worked because he didn't write in it every day and by the lengthening gaps between entries you could really feel Devane's despair and what's the point attitude. I liked the ending, it made the whole story more satisfactory. My only criticism is Devane could have got up to a bit more interesting stuff, being the last person on earth that he couldn't do in the populated world, trying to fight the boredom, at least at first before the major despair kicks in. Still if you're looking for a great way to pass ten minutes in a work break or something, Devane's Reality is a good way to do it.Product details

Devane Reality A MindBending Thriller Short Story edition by Lane Diamond DT Conklin Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I wonder if that is exactly what it is like to be locked into the chambers of your own mind. Or if the same would apply if you were the only person left on earth. Is insanity the obvious conclusion or does that depend on the state of that persons mind. Takes me back to the monkey experiments in psychology and what happens when you deprive a human or monkey of all human contact. It is a short quick read.
I couldn't help but think of "Where Is Everybody?" the first episode ever of the iconic American television anthology series The Twilight Zone. This is a well written, thought provoking, haunting, disturbing tale...imagine? I highly recommend this story and it draws real emotion, what more can you ask? A 5 star short....
Such a downer. Not to my taste. I only noticed one typo "lay" should be "lie". It's probably something the literary fiction folks would like, but not entertaining enough for me.
It wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. That is just my opinion though.
What would you do if you woke up to find you are completely, totally alone?
What would you do to fight the "aloneness?"
What is reality?
Though well written, I found this to be a disturbing book.
This story had a very interesting premise, and like Diamond's "Wind Tunnel" I'd like to see it developed more deeply - more about the world around him, his interactions with his environment, etc.
I kept reading because I wanted to find out what happened to everyone else, so the ending was disappointing.
This story was delightfully written, the main character vivid and immediately gripping. The plot was unusual and a fast read. This is the type of short story that lets the reader revel in outstanding writing and imagery. My only complaint was that it wasn't longer. I'd rate this one 4.5 stars, but since that's not an option, I've rounded up!
